Product collections — create and manage on a product
How to create Custom product collections, Related products, and Shop the Look on a product, and how to edit, copy, import, and delete them.
💡 Partially in English
The fields in the edit view are currently in English, for example Display nameTypeAdd productLink product and Included products. The article uses the English names where they are important to find.
Creating a product collection
Open the product, go to the tab Collections, and open the section for the group you want to create a collection in.
Custom
1. Click Create local collection in the Custom section.
2. Select a display type: Basic, Image, Color, or Dropdown.
3. Enter a name. If you leave the field blank, the collection takes the name of the display type.
4. Create the collection and add products.
A product can have as many Custom collections as you want. Drag the handle on the left to change the order.
Related products
A product can only have one collection of the type Related products. The collection is created with one click, without a name and without selecting a type. It is called "Related products". The button disappears when the collection exists.
You cannot copy the collection or change its display type. It cannot be dragged to reorder, as there is only one.
Shop the Look
Shop the Look is also created with one click. The first is named "Shop the Look", the next "Shop the Look 2", "Shop the Look 3", and so on. You can rename them.
A product can have multiple Shop the Look collections. Drag the handle to change the order. Shop the Look requires Smart or higher.
Editing a product collection
Click the pencil icon on the collection to open editing. You will see three fields:
Field | What you do |
|---|---|
Display name | Changes the name. The collection cannot be saved with an empty name |
Type | Switches display type. Locked for Related products |
Add product | Searches for products and adds them |
Below the fields is Included products with all the products in the collection. Click Save to save, or Cancel to discard the changes.
Adding and removing products
- The search starts after two characters and shows up to 12 results. You search by product name.
- Click a result to add it. Results that are already included are marked Added Clicking them again will remove them.
- The product you are editing cannot be added to its own collection.
- Remove a product using the trash can icon on the row.
AI can also suggest products and names. Read Product Collections — AI Help.
Changing display type
You can switch between Basic, Image, Color, and Dropdown. You can also turn a Custom collection into Shop the Look, and vice versa. Shop the Look then requires Smart or higher. The collection then moves to the other group.
Related products cannot change type. You can also not change another collection to Related products.
Turning on and off
The toggle Active on the collection controls whether it is displayed in the online store. A turned-off collection retains all content.
Hidden and disabled products
A product that is hidden or disabled remains in the collection. The row is grayed out and has an eye icon, and the product is not displayed in the online store.
Link products both ways
In Related products and in Custom collections of type Dropdown, each product has a checkbox Link product
- If it is checked, this product is added to the other product's collection of the same type. If it does not exist, it will be created.
- If it is unchecked, this product is removed from the other product's collection. The other collection is not deleted, even if it becomes empty.
- When you add a product, the checkbox is unchecked by default.
- If you remove the product from the collection, or delete the entire collection, the link back is also removed.
Example: You add "T-shirt Green" to Related products on "T-shirt Red" and check Link product. Then "T-shirt Red" also appears as related on "T-shirt Green".
For Dropdown, the first collection of type Dropdown on the other product is used. If it does not exist, one will be created.
Copy a product collection
Click the copy icon on the collection. The copy gets the same name with "_cloned" appended, and is placed at the top. The copy includes the products and everything you have set per product: images, colors, and short names.
You cannot copy Related products, and Shop the Look can only be copied from Smart.
Import product collections from another product
If you have a product that is similar to another, you can fetch the collections from there.
1. Click Import collections in the Custom section.
2. Search for the product you want to fetch from. The search starts after three characters.
3. Select the collections you want to fetch.
4. Choose whether the source product should be included (Include source product). It is on by default.
5. Confirm the import.
The import creates new collections with the same name, display type, and products. You can fetch all types, with these exceptions:
- You can only import one collection of the type Related products, and only if the product does not already have one.
- Shop the Look can only be imported from Smart.
⚠️ Images, colors, and short names are not included
The import includes the products, but not the images, colors, or short names you have set per product. You must enter those again.
⚠️ The import also changes the source product
With Include source product on, the source product is added to the new collection. At the same time, the product you are importing to is added to the original collection on the source product. The source product's page will then display this product.
Link to a global product collection
1. Click Connect to global collection in the Global section.
2. Select the collection from the list.
If the one you need is missing, you can create one from there. Read Global product collections and Product variants.
Removing a global collection from the product does not delete the collection. The product simply stops showing it.
Delete a product collection
Click the trash icon on the collection and confirm with Yes. For Related products and Dropdown, the back links from the other products are also removed. For a global collection, deletion applies to all products using it.
Tips
- A change in a collection updates the product pages that display it. It may take a moment before the online store shows the change.
- Use import when many products should have the same setup. Use Global if all products should share one collection and follow it when changed.
