Minimum order limit
Minimum Order Amount
With Minimum Order Amount, you set a lowest amount the shopping cart must reach before the customer can complete the order. The feature was previously called Minimum Order Limit.
⚠️ Requires Smart or Plus
You can activate Minimum Order Amount yourself if your store has Smart or Plus. If you have Mini or Start, you will see an offer to upgrade instead — or you can contact support, who can install the feature for you. Once installed, it works regardless of which plan the store has later.
Why set a minimum amount
Small orders cost as much to pick, pack, and ship as large ones. A minimum amount:
- reduces the number of small orders
- makes each order worth handling
- covers costs for packing, shipping, and payment
The customer can still add as little as they want to the shopping cart. Only the checkout is blocked until the amount is reached.
Find your way
Go to Orders → Order Settings → Minimum Order Amount
What you encounter there depends on whether the feature is already installed:
Situation | What you see |
|---|---|
Not installed | A brief presentation of the feature and the button Install |
Installed, but disabled | The minimum amount field and the button Activate |
Active | The settings page with amount per currency and the off button |
How to get started
- Go to Orders → Order Settings → Minimum Order AmountClick
- Install. The feature is added to your store, but is not yet enabled.Enter the minimum amount in your store's currency.
- Click
- Activate. The amount is saved and the limit takes effect immediately.
You don't need to go to Modules to install it first — the page does it itself.
The amount
The amount is including VAT. and must be a whole number. 500 works, 500.50 does not.
Thousands separator with a space is fine: if you type , it is saved as 1500. Commas and periods are rejected, because 1.500 means 1500 to some and 1.5 to others — it's safer to say no than to guess.
Multiple currencies
If the store has multiple currencies, it is sufficient to fill in the amount in the standard currency. The others are automatically converted according to the current exchange rate, and you will see the converted amount below each field.
If you want to manage a currency yourself, enter your own amount in its field. That amount will then apply, regardless of the exchange rate. If you clear the field again, the currency will revert to automatic conversion.
Field | Means |
|---|---|
Standard currency with amount | The store's limit, and the basis from which all other currencies are converted |
Other currency, empty field | Automatically converted from the standard currency |
Other currency with amount | Your own amount overrides the conversion |
If you have set an amount for a currency that you later disable, the amount will remain. If you enable the currency again, it will still be there.
What the customer sees
Under Webshop, you choose whether the minimum amount should be displayed in the shopping cart. If the option is enabled, the customer will see a line called «Minimum order limit (incl. VAT)» in the shopping cart summary, so they can see what is required.
If the customer tries to proceed to checkout with too little in the shopping cart, they will receive a message that the total amount is lower than the minimum amount, and the order will be stopped.
💡 The line in the shopping cart is only displayed in the Belgrade template
Other design templates do not show it. The limit is still enforced — the customer will receive the message when they try to proceed, regardless of the template.
Disable
Under Status, you will find Disable. Then the limit stops applying, but the amounts are retained — if you enable it again later, they will still be there.
If you want to remove the feature completely, do so under Settings → Modules. This deletes the settings.
Good to know
- The limit applies to all customers. It is not possible to set different amounts per customer group.
- It applies to both private customers and business customers.
- The amount is compared to the total in the shopping cart, including VAT.
- If you use the Discount Center, the limit is measured on the amount before the discount. A shopping cart of 500 kroner with a 100 kroner discount therefore counts as 500 against a limit of 500 — the discount does not help the customer exceed the limit, and a discount code cannot therefore be used to go below it either.
Troubleshooting
I cannot activate the feature myself
Then the store has Mini or Start. Upgrade to Smart or Plus from the page, or contact support.
The amount is not saved
Check that it is a whole number without a comma or period, and that it is greater than 0.
The minimum amount is not displayed in the online store
The design template determines if the line is displayed — currently only Belgrade. The limit still works: the customer is stopped at checkout.
The customer proceeds to checkout even if the amount is too low
Check that the status is active, and that an amount is saved for the currency the customer is shopping in — or for the standard currency, from which the others are converted.
