Product collections — display types

Collections that were created before display types existed are displayed as Basic.

Basic

Products are displayed as standard product boxes. You choose which product box is used via the collection block in the design builder. Read Displaying product collections on the product page.

Image

Each square shows the product image. You can replace it with a custom image, such as a close-up of the fabric.

1. Click the pencil icon on the collection.

2. Click the image icon on the product you want to change.

3. Select a JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 2 MB, or drag it in.

4. Click Save image

Select Reset to product image to revert to the product's default image. If the product has neither its own nor a default image, a placeholder will be displayed.

The image applies only to this collection. If you copy the collection, the image is included in the copy. If you import the collection from another product, it is not included.

In Image, you can also set a short name. It is displayed as a name below or above the image and as alternative text.

Color

Each product gets a color swatch. You set the colors per product in the collection, so the same product can have different colors in different collections.

1. Click the pencil icon on the collection.

2. Click the product's color swatch.

3. Select from Quick selections, or use Add color and enter a hex code.

4. Click Save colors

A swatch can have up to four colors. If it has two or more, the swatch is divided into equal parts. This is suitable for multi-colored products. Remove colors removes all colors.

A product without colors displays the product image instead. If it also lacks an image, an empty swatch is displayed. The color swatch always shows the product name, not the short name.

You can let AI suggest colors based on the color words in the product names. Read Product collections — AI help.

The customer sees a dropdown list. Each option shows the name and whether the product is in stock or not. A stock quantity above zero is displayed as "In stock". Selecting it takes the customer to that product. The product the customer is viewing is pre-selected.

Short name

In Dropdown and Image, you can display a short name instead of the product name, for example "Navy" or "XL". You set short names per product and per language.

1. Click the pencil icon on the collection.

2. Click Add short name on the product.

3. Enter the short name for each language. It can be up to 40 characters.

4. Click Save short name

A language without a short name displays the product name. You can let AI write short names for you.

The products are displayed as a list the customer can explore. You can link the products both ways with Link product. Read Product collections — create and manage on a product.

Shop the Look

Each product is displayed as a wide card with an image, name, price, stock status, and a buy button.

  • If the product has variants, for example size and color, the customer selects them in a drop-down list per variant group. Choices that are not in stock together with the rest of the selection are grayed out. The buy button is disabled until all variant groups are selected.
  • Stock status is not displayed if your store does not track inventory or allows purchases when out of stock.
  • Products that cannot be added directly to the shopping cart get a link to the product page instead. This applies to bundles, gift cards, products requiring options selected on the product page, and products without a buy button or with a "Contact us" button.

Shop the Look is always displayed in a single column on desktop. The number of columns on mobile and the layout appearance are selected in the design builder. Shop the Look requires Smart or higher.

Change type

You can switch between Basic, Image, Color and Dropdown on an existing collection. What you have set per product remains on the product, but is only used by the type it belongs to:
