How to create gift cards
What are gift cards?
Gift cards allow customers to purchase a flexible gift that can be used later, both in the online store and at the POS. For you as an online store owner, gift cards are an effective way to increase sales and loyalty, while the purchase often occurs before the item is actually delivered.
Create gift cards
Gift cards are created as a regular product.
- Create a new product from the category overview
- Enter:
- product name
- description
- image
- stock status
- Click Create product
- Click Edit on the product
- Go to the Tags tab and activate giftcard
- Save changes
The gift card is now ready for sale.
Selling gift cards in the online store
When the product is tagged with giftcard-tag, the product is automatically displayed as a gift card in the online store.
- The customer purchases the gift card as a regular product
- After purchase, an email is sent with:
- PDF file
- gift card code (discount code)
The customer can then use the code at checkout when purchasing.
Gift card sales in the POS system (POS)
Gift cards can also be sold directly in the POS system.
- Sold as a regular product
- The gift card can be used by:
- scanning the barcode on the receipt
- or entering the code manually (13 digits)
We recommend performing a test purchase in both the online store and the POS system to familiarize yourself with the flow.
Overview and accounting
You can find an overview of sold and used gift cards in the control panel under Reports → Liabilities
- Here you can see the outstanding gift card value
- If you use Tripletex, there is a separate help article for accounting via the integration that you can read here!
Crediting orders paid with gift cards
Important to be aware of:
- Orders that are partially paid with gift cards cannot be automatically credited back to the gift card
- The system does not differentiate between gift card amount and other payment when crediting
If you need to credit an order that was partially paid with a gift card, contact customer service for assistance.
