Automatic email upon newsletter subscription
This article explains how to set up an automatic email dispatch that sends a welcome message with a discount code to customers who subscribe to the newsletter via a popup.
Step-by-step guide
To set this up, you must first prepare the content (the email) and then the rule itself that sends it out (the flow).
1. Create the email
Before you set up the automation, the message itself must be ready.
- Go to Flow → Email → Overview.
- Click on the plus sign (+) to create a new email.
- Choose a template that is suitable for welcome messages.
- Write your text, and feel free to add a discount code component.
- Save and give the email a recognizable name, for example «Welcome email upon signup».
2. Create the flow for email sending
The next step is to determine when the email should be sent:
- Go to Flow → Overview.
- Click on the plus sign (+) and choose a «Simple» flow.
- Choose the «Signed up popup» trigger, and connect it to the popup you want to use.
- Connect the flow to the email you created in step 1.
- Activate the flow – it turns blue when it is operational.
3. Test before going live
- Sign up yourself: Visit the online store and fill out the popup with an email address you have access to.
- Check your inbox: Did the email arrive as expected?
- Try the discount code: Add an item to the shopping cart and confirm that the code actually deducts the correct amount.
Why send the discount code by email – not directly in the popup?
Two reasons: You get confirmation that the customer has provided a real address, and you ensure that the customer's first encounter with you is an email they actually open. This makes it more likely that future newsletters will also be read.
