Article Number
This article explains the importance of unique article numbers for products and variants, and how they are used in various systems.
Unique Article Numbers
All your products are automatically assigned a unique Product ID in our system. This is used, among other things, for communication with Klarna, and when exporting/importing CSV files. This means that article numbers are not crucial for your daily operations, but it is still wise to be familiar with your article numbers. Products and variants should have unique article numbers. Although it is not a requirement, it is strongly recommended to ensure smooth operation and accuracy in your online store.
Why are unique article numbers important?
- Reporting: Provides you with even more accurate data for sales reports and analyses.
- Organic Visibility: Can improve your organic visibility in search engines if they are clearly displayed on product pages.
Article Numbers on Variants
Each product combination (variant) that is inventory-managed requires a unique article number. This functions almost as if each variant were a separate product, enabling precise inventory control.
- Recommended format: It is advisable to link the variant's article number to the product's main number to maintain an overview. For example, if the main product is
L3000, the variants can beL3000-1, L3000-2, etc. - Consistency is key: Regardless of the system you choose, make sure to use it consistently.
- Flexibility: You can create your own article numbers or use the supplier's existing numbers.
