# URL Redirects

This article explains how to set up URL redirects in your online store. Redirects are used to send visitors from an old URL to a new one, preventing customers from encountering a 404 error (page not found).

## What is a redirect?

A redirect is used when a page in your online store has a new address or no longer exists.

When a customer opens an old link:

- they are automatically redirected to the correct page
- old bookmarks and links continue to work
- you avoid 404 errors in your store

This is especially useful when:

- changing a product URL
- restructuring categories
- migrating content

4. Enter the **New address**
5. Click **Save**

## Types of redirects

### Global redirect

- A general redirect that applies across the entire store.
- Used to redirect one URL to another.

Example:

→
[`www.storename.com/new-page`](https://www.storename.com/new-page)

This is the most common type of redirect.

### Product redirect

- Redirects from one specific **product ID** to another.
- Used when a product has been moved or replaced.

Note:

- You must use the **product ID**, not the product name
- The ID can be found when editing the product

### Category redirect

- Redirects from one specific **category ID** to another.
- Used when a category has been moved or replaced.

Note:

- You must use the **category ID**, not the category name
- The ID can be found when editing the category

**Category IDs** and **product IDs** refer to the **unique identifier**, not the name, of the category or product. You can find the ID when editing the category or product.

## Editing or deleting redirects

You can edit or delete existing redirects.

1. Go to **Control Panel → Configuration → Redirects**
2. Here you can:

- - edit a redirect
    - delete a redirect

### Important

- If you select **Delete**, the redirect is removed immediately
- Deleting a redirect cannot be undone

When editing a redirect, the **old address is locked** and cannot be changed.

If you need a different old address, you must create a new redirect.

Note: Editing existing redirects should only be done if you have a good reason and understand the changes you are making.

## Important to know

- Redirects only work within the store’s **main domain**
- You cannot redirect to an external domain
- Incorrect configuration may cause pages not to load properly
- Always test redirects after creating them

## What if this does not solve the problem?

- Verify that the old URL is entered correctly
- Check that the new URL exists
- Test the link in incognito mode
- Contact Mystore support if the redirect does not work

Please include:

- The store domain
- The old URL
- The new URL
- A screenshot of the redirect in the control panel
